The European Central Bank will discuss next week whether to begin laying the groundwork to add the Chinese yuan to its foreign-currency reserves, according to two people with knowledge of the matter.
Such a measure by the ECB would mark a major step in the internationalization of China’s currency, also known as the renminbi. While China is the world’s second-largest national economy, the yuan isn’t ranked among the most-held foreign reserve assets, according to data from the International Monetary Fund. The U.S. dollar leads at 61 percent of holdings.

The first two European Pressurized Reactor (EPR) construction projects at Olkiluoto and in Flamanville, France, have been plagued by problems. Now it turns out that there have been similar setbacks with another EPR project, a double reactor in Taishan, southern China, near Hong Kong. YLE has obtained inspection reports from China's National Nuclear Safety Administration based on visits in 2009, as construction was beginning there. The results are familiar to observers of the Finnish and French ventures.
Among other things, if the United States pressured Burma it would be at odd with India and China, both of which trade with Burma. Once again, a nascent nuclear-weapons program is used as an implement with which to bludgeon states when it serves our purpose such as Iran. But when dealing with it puts the United States at odd with states that it doesn't wish to alienate (further, in the case of China), it's all too willing to turn a blind eye to its nuclear program. Burma no doubt banks on that." Russ Wellen 25 oktober
Systems such as ‘Semantic Archive’ are, in fact, what the Russian security services and Ministry of the Interior (MVD) use to monitor open sources (i.e. the media) and the Internet, including the blogosphere and social networks. The FSB and MVD started buying these systems extensively in the middle of the 2000s. In 2006, for example, during the run up to the G8 summit in St. Petersburg, the Interior Ministry bought a ‘Random Information Collection System’ from the Russian software company Smartware, as a precaution, it claimed, against extremism. ‘Instead of Facebook we have XiaoNei, and instead of Twitter, Weibo.

Sreeram Chaulia 11.3.14: "What transpired thereafter was that Botswanans got cheated by China in a way they can never forget or forgive. Beijing’s state-owned China National Electric Equipment Corporation (CNEEC) initially looked like a knight in shining armour in 2008 when it bagged a $970 million contract to deliver a 600-megawatt coal-fired power plant in four years. Come 2012, however, CNEEC handed over a small fraction of the finished work, that too with serious technical flaws and flouting of safety standards that claimed the lives of Botswanan workers." "Botswana is Africa’s least corrupt country as per the Transparency International Corruption Perception Index, and the usual Chinese tricks of bribing African elites and having it their way stood no chance. In January 2014, the Botswanan government invited a German company to take over maintenance and operation of the power plant, and to “identify problems created by CNEEC and rectify them,” adding further costs to taxpayers and leaving the country simmering with anger at the agony of load-shedding."

Voice of Russia 30.3.2014: President Xi Jinping's visit to Germany yielded an unexpected success for the Chinese quest to internationalize the yuan. "Angela Merkel convinced the Chinese decision-makers to chose Frankfurt over Paris and Luxembourg. Most probable, the choice was influenced by the fact that Germany is the biggest trade partner of China in Europe with a yearly turnover of more than 140 billion euros. It is obvious that it was only a matter of time until Beijing will try to switch all the trade flows between the European Union and China from US dollars to Chinese yuan. "

And the problem is that we have to pump up the credit too much in order to reduce unemployment. We are going into the same thing again...Obviously we are moving to another boom and bust period. It’s not just the property prices, in many emerging markets you are also getting this. Stock markets are at an all-time high. And yet many people fear a crash. We are gambling immense amounts of money, 4 trillion dollars on the FED balance sheet. ...My book is called the Money Trap because the system is set up in such a way that people, governments, banks, and major actors think that they can do well in such a system with free capital movements, free exchange rates, liberal environment, but they neglect international stability.
TheGuardian 17 April 'What is certain is that Barack Obama's rapacious coup in Ukraine has ignited a civil war and Vladimir Putin is being lured into a trap.' On 23 April, Obama will begin a tour of Asia to promote his "pivot" to China. The aim is to convince his "allies" in the region, principally Japan, to rearm and prepare for the possibility of war with China. By 2020, almost two-thirds of all US naval forces in the world will be transferred to the Asia-Pacific area. This is the greatest military concentration in that vast region since the second world war.

We already know who will be the next party leader: Vice President Xi Jinping. What we don’t know is what matters: Does Xi have a “Chinese Dream” that is different from the “American Dream?” Because if Xi’s dream for China’s emerging middle class — 300 million people expected to grow to 800 million by 2025 — is just like the American Dream (a big car, a big house and Big Macs for all) then we need another planet.
