Implications for practice and research: Trauma-informed care (TIC) in acute mental healthcare settings is inhibited by mental health nurses’ experiences of being unsafe, their lack of emotion management skills and their involvement in coercive practices. Further research is needed to better understand the relationship between mental health nurses’ emotional intelligence and their ability to implement TIC.
