Autor: Michael Wesch, Kansas State University. Dauer 4:33. Sehr anschauliches "Werbe"-Video zu wesentlichen Aspekten des Web 2.0. Angeschnitten werden u.a. die Themen Hypertext, RSS, Mashups, Blogs, Feeds, Tagging und Tagging-Communities. Mit dem Slogan "The web is linking people" wird das Web 2.0 als technische Umwelt verstanden, die neue soziale Netzwerke ermöglicht und etabliert.

You don’t need to apologize for calling it Web 3.0. Of course the Web does not upgrade in one go like a company switching to Vista. But there is a definite phase transition from current technologies. My personal Web 3.0 definition is “the combination of Web 2.0 mass collaboration with structured databases”.
Wikipedia 2006a, Wikipedia 2006b).
In a previous essay, I wrote about the cognitive aspect of tagging - describing how people tag, and why they find it easy. There is another, equally important aspect of tagging that I did not touch upon - the "why" of tagging. Why do people tag? For many,

This paper presents a review of altmetrics or alternative metrics. This concept is defined as the creation and study of new indicators for analysing scientific and academic research activity based onWeb 2.0. The underlying premise is that variables such as mentions in blogs, numberof tweets or saves ofan articleby researchersin reference management systems, may be a valid measure of the use and impactof scientific publications. In this respect, these measuresare becoming particularly relevant, being at the centre of debate within the bibliometric community. Firstly,an explanation is given of the main platforms and indicators for this type of measurement. Subsequently,a study is undertaken of a selection of papers from the field of communication, comparing the number of citations received withtheir 2.0 indicators. The results show that the most cited articles within recent years also have significantly higher altmetric indicators. Next follows a review of the principal empirical studies undertaken, centering on the correlations between bibliometric and alternative indicators. To conclude, the main limitations of altmetrics are highlighted, alongside a reflective consideration of the role altmetrics may play in capturing the impactof research in Web 2.0 platforms.
Using RhNav - Rhizome Navigation I wrote a data aggregator for Technorati's API. The first result is a video which visualizes blog domains by analysing Technorati's Cosmos (the blogs which link to a particular URL). The video is a screencast of RhNav fetc
AQUA - Automatic Quality Assessment and Feedback in eLearning 2.0
The current development of Web 2.0 makes the distinction between author and reader fading away. Users now produce huge amounts of data which sometimes is of questionable quality. This leads to the problem of information overload: how to make the most of this information without overwhelming the users? One key challenge to solve this issue is to assess the quality of the user generated content.
In AQUA, we seek to develop algorithms to assess the quality of content automatically. We focus on two sources for this assessment: (1) user generated content; (2) feedback by users of the content. To do so, we investigate techniques from the fields of natural language processing (NLP), information retrieval, and machine learning.
So, in a nutshell, AQUA will answer the following questions:
What is quality of information? How does it matter in information search?
How to model the quality of user generated content?
How far can you go with automatic methods in assessing quality?
How to give feedback to users regarding quality?
The AQUA project is associated with the project "Mining Lexical-Semantic Knowledge from Dynamic and Linguistic Sources and Integration into Question Answering for Discourse-Based Knowledge Acquisition in e-learning (QA-EL)".

Whether you use your computer for work or fun, the programs you use generally have one thing in common - they are stored on your PC. Increasingly though, that software is moving online.
The move to put more and more of those familiar programs on to the web has been happening for a while but its latest incarnation has won the name of Web 2.0.
What is it - the definition is imprecise at best, but it loosely describes a category of websites that are known for interactivity, collaboration and community.
