Abstract

Älthough much has been written about how teachers differentially communicate with female and male students, less research has been done on the treatment of faculty by students. This essay presents a review of recent research on the different ways in which male and female students communicate with women and men faculty. The essay concludes with recommendations women faculty may implement to reduce behaviors that create and sustain a “chilly” classroom climate."
