Abstract
Linguistic and cultural aspects of the translation of swearing. In every language and culture there exist words and expressions judged, usually subjectively, as bad language. Vulgar and colloquial expressions, incorrect or inaccurate uses of lexis, grammar and pronunciation, malapropisms, sloppy speech, slang, jargon and swearing are just some examples of this universal phenomenon. Considered discourteous, bad-mannered or just improper, bad language is assumed to be dangerous and certainly something to be avoided.
