Method: Data were obtained from 8 sources including the Autism Treatment Network sites. The researchers created models to predict 10 outcomes related to ASD severity. Sex was included as a variable in the model to see if there are differences between males and females. Results: The models found slight differences in severity for some ASD features between boys and girls. Boys received more severe Rigid and Repetitive Behavior scores than girls on two diagnostic tools. Girls received more severe Rigid and Repetitive Behavior scores than boys on the third tool. Girls also had more severe social communication score. Conclusions: This study created the largest sample of girls with ASD diagnoses. We found small differences due to sex on ASD severity. This suggests that different scoring procedures for boys and girls would not be necessary. Future research should be done on this topic.
