This paper examined the brief idea about the mode of operations, design characteristics of various types of reactive power compensation techniques. These techniques are used to improve the performance of AC transmission & distribution systems. They enhance the stability of the AC transmission system by increasing the active power that can be transmitted thereby enhancing the overall working of the electric power system.
