Abstract

The International Conference on Systems Biology 2011 was the 12th conference in the series started by Hiroaki Kitano in Tokyo in 2000. With more than 1200 participants, this conference was one of the largest so far, emphasizing the growing interest in this field. With ever more sophisticated experimental methods for the quantitative measurement of intracellular processes, there is also a growing need to use computational aids to integrate the respective data and to gain a deeper understanding using modeling and simulation of the systems. This integration of quantitative experimentation and computational modeling is at the heart of systems biology. \copyright 2012 The Authors Journal compilation \copyright 2012 FEBS. \copyright 2012 The Authors Journal compilation \copyright 2012 FEBS.
