A Basis for Analyzing Software Architecture Analysis Methods.

, , , , and . Software Quality Journal, 13 (4): 329-355 (2005)

Description

After discussing the wide range of software architecture evaluation methods and two overview papers about these methods the authors state that the reviews of software architecture evaluations lack to identify how effective and how usable an evaluation method is. This is way they determined four fundamental criteria which are of primary importance for analyzing and evaluating software architecture analysis methods: 1) Context and goal identification (how is this done, what techniques are used) 2) Focus and properties under examination (how does the method make sure the analysis stays focus on the properties under review) 3) Analysis support (What material is present to perform the analysis) 4) Determining analysis outcome (How is the circle closed, how do we know whether the analysis succeeded) These four criteria are then looked at in the light of the ATAM and the ALMA.
