Process-Based Activism and Feminist Politics in the Neoliberal Age

Abstract
This commentary looks back on my 2016 article “Redoing Feminism: Digital Activism, Body Politics, and Neoliberalism.” Reflecting on my initial aim to develop new theoretical frames for examining the epistemological and activist work undertaken by digital feminisms, I consider how my emphasis on the potential of process-based activism, but also on the incessant circularity of its appropriation and refutation in the context of neoliberalism, resonated with subsequent developments in both protest cultures and scholarship. Situating my work within the trajectory of inquiry charted by Feminist Media Studies across its twenty-year history, I conclude by calling for renewed attention to the aesthetic dimension of feminist activism today.
