Due to the increasing shortage of labour and cost it is necessary to intensify the utilization of EDP,
which constantly offers new possibilities of rationalization.

In this connection a recently developed program system is described which in a fully integrated procedure
deals with the statical calculation of transmission line towers, the dimensioning and constructional
design including workshop drawings and other documents necessary for the production such as bills of
material.
A summary is given of the whole working sequence for the constructiOn of transmission line towers,
including the transmission requirements as well as assembly at the erection site from the point of view of
data processing and an integrated procedure from data bank into data bank.
The operation of programs for statical calculation of latticed constructions and their dimensioning is
taken for granted. The subsequent structural design of a transmission line tower is described in the following.
The design stage which up to now has mainly been carried out graphically on the drawing board is
now realized digitally. Therefore, the final results on hand are also in digital form. From the data stock
result a graphical output is obtained in the form of a workshop drawing. Moreover, all further data and
documents necessary for the manufacture are expressed in tabulated form. Production using the direct
input of digital constructional data into numerically controlled workshop machines is a further extension
to the present field of application.
The handling of this system is demonstrated by means of examples of its application.
