Abstract

Investigated extending the Assessment of Basic Learning Abilities test (ABLA) ceiling by the addition of a live-to-live (LTL) auditory matching task. 11 adults (27-47 yrs old) with developmental disabilities were assessed on the ABLA test, an auditory match-to-sample (AMS) task, and 6 LTL auditory matching tasks. LTL auditory matching tasks included 3 speech sound and 3 simple sound tasks. Five Ss performed at ABLA Level 4. Two Ss passed the AMS task, while none passed the LTL auditory matching tasks. The remaining Ss passed all ABLA levels and the AMS task. Two Ss passed LTL auditory matching tasks. Results support previous findings of the placement of the AMS task at a difficulty level between ABLA Level 4 and ABLA Level 5. LTL auditory matching is more difficult than the 6 ABLA levels and if validated could be a first step in extending the ABLA test. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
