The Colectica Platform is an ideal solution for statistical agencies, survey research groups, public opinion research, data archivists, and other data centric collection operations that are looking to increase the expressiveness and longevity of the data collected through standards based metadata documentation.
It is important to keep track of technologies obsolescence and decay as well as changes to the intended use of the information. To support managing this, IBM has developed the Preservation Manager. It provides the functionality for defining and managing the technical environment needed to render the digital assets. It stores technical metadata for every file format. Technical metadata specify the software and hardware needed to render the digital assets. Based on the concepts of Preservation Layer Models (PLMs) and View Paths. PLMs define different templates to hold specific technical metadata that describe the hardware and software required to use an asset. The set of actual technical metadata based on a specific PLM is a View Path. View Paths can be associated with specific file formats or a collection of assets. Over time the chain could be broken at different places, as software and/or hardware components become obsolete.
MINT services compose a web based platform that was designed and developed to facilitate aggregation initiatives for cultural heritage content and metadata in Europe. It is employed from the first steps of such workflows, corresponding to the ingestion, mapping and aggregation of metadata records, and proceeds to implement a variety of remediation approaches for the resulting repository
The cb2Bib is a free, open source, and multiplatform application for rapidly extracting unformatted, or unstandardized bibliographic references from email alerts, journal Web pages, and PDF files. The cb2Bib facilitates the capture of single references from unformatted and non standard sources. Output references are written in BibTeX. Article files can be easily linked and renamed by dragging them onto the cb2Bib window. Additionally, it permits editing and browsing BibTeX files, citing references, searching references and the full contents of the referenced documents, inserting bibliographic metadata to documents, and writing short notes that interrelate several references.
The eXtensible Text Framework (XTF) is a powerful open source platform for providing access to digital content. Developed and maintained by the California Digital Library (CDL), XTF functions as the primary access technology for the CDL's digital collections and other digital projects worldwide.
Xml based metalanguage for a database schema definition. The following artifacts could be generated from this definition: DDL scripts for various database servers, HTML - documentation, ERD.
Apache Tika is a toolkit for detecting and extracting metadata and structured text content from various documents using existing parser libraries. You can find the latest release on the download page. See the Getting Started guide for instructions on how to start using Tika.
Have you ever evolved your metamodel in EMF and your models were no longer valid afterwards? Or have you avoided to evolve your metamodel in order not to invalidate your models? Or have you even deteriorated your metamodel so that it remains downwards compatible to previous versions in order to avoid these problems?
This site introduces COPE, a tool based on EMF that eases the migration of models in response to an evolving metamodel. COPE explicitly records the history of the metamodel as a sequence of changes and allows to attach information of how to migrate models (which is referred to as coupled evolution). The attached information can be used to automatically migrate models to the new version of the metamodel. COPE even goes one step further and allows to reuse combinations of metamodel adaptation and model migration steps across metamodels.
In order not to disturb EMF users in their habits, COPE seamlessly integrates into the Ecore editor. A demonstration of the tool in action can be looked at here. It is planned to contribute COPE to the Eclipse community.
Very interesting approach!
"Apache Empire-db is an Open Source relational data persistence component which allows database vendor independent dynamic query definition as well as safe and simple data retrieval and updating. Compared to most other solutions like e.g. Hibernate, TopLink, iBATIS or JPA implementations, Empire-db takes a considerably different approach, with a special focus on compile-time safety, reduced redundancies and improved developer productivity."
