PERFORMANCE OF COMPOSITE INSULATORS UNDER POLLUTED CONDITIONS

Abstract

According to the long-term exposure test in field, no significant difference in equivalent salt deposit density was observed between composite and porcelain insulators. Leakage currents of silicone rubber insulators were smaller and less frequent compared with porcelain insulators, while those of ethylene vinyl acetate insulators were almost comparable to porcelain insulators. A novel artificial pollution method of hydrophobic insulators, well simulating natural pollution conditions in field, has been developed. Based on this pollution method, fundamental withstand voltage characteristics have been investigated by the clean fog method and typical investigation results are presented in the paper.
