Abstract
Environmental concerns are now a significant factor in the planning and design of high tension electrical
systems. This paper examines the selection and development of transmission corridors through land use,
aesthetic and ecological techniques. Methods that reduce the undesirable land use and ecological impact of
transmission facilities are described and illustrations are included. Environmental problems resulting from the
flow of electricity are discussed as are some means of ameliorating them.
